I bought six of these filters in Dec 08 and they are fake.They have different markings on them from the originalBlueAir filters.The filter media is also oriented up-to-down instead of left-to-right.The width is 1/8-inch shorter so there is a gap whenyou put them into the machines.And hold the filter up to a light and you can see through the filter!!!There is no carbon in them.DO NOT BUY THESE - RIP OFF!!!

When I was still living in New York, my local pharmacist saw me purchasing this product and asked me if it worked. I explained that it was actually my third purchase. I had accidentally left my other two back in Texas and my son had caught a cold. After hearing my spiel about how it worked, the pharmacist dashed off to set one aside for her kids.

The Vicks Waterless Vaporizer is literally a plug-and-use product. Simply insert a scent pad, plug in the power cord, and choose your intensity setting. It goes from "off" to "III", with the latter being the most intense release of scent. No mess or fuss. At night, it doubles as a pleasant, low level, green nightlight.

The only complaint you may have is that, similar to the rub-on version of Vicks, it can burn the eyes if it is a little too close to someone's face. Otherwise, it clears your nose like magic and lives up to the Vicks reputation.

Oh yeah, I've since added a fourth one to my anti-cold/flu arsenal. My mom seems to be claiming a couple.

Bulb needs replacement after @ 2000 hours of use. The bulb needs to be the one designed for the Slant/Fin humidifier, not any old UV bulb. It has a small bead of metal (? mercury) in the bulb that acts as an activator. Once replaced, the small yellow light goes out on the humidifier indicating that it is working. So far, it is working well. The problem is finding it on the internet. Prices range from $13.00 to $24.00

Ordered new wick for my Lampe Berge from Amazon.It came quickly and fit perfectly like the original that came with the Lampe.The Lampe did a great job of clearing cigar smoke from my den, but at half of a $15 bottle of special fuel per smoke it was a bit pricey.After reading several articles online I tried 91% isopropal alcohol (it clogged up my original burner) and Marine lantern alcohol fuel (it clogged up this new burner).With warm weather now here I am back outside.I will probability order another wick next fall and some genuine Lampe Berge fuel.

I've had this product for over a year.It is easy to clean and works as it is supposed to.It is great for a large bedroom.It does not have enough capacity to humidify your entire house, unless you live in a very small ranch.In the winter in my New England home, I refill it about every day, sometimes twice a day.It has the ability to put a good amount of moisture into the air.I believe it is rated to humidify about 1000 sq ft.

The only complaint I have is that the highest fan setting is almost unusable - it is very noisy.

on the lowest fan setting, not enough moisture is put into the air, but it is very quiet.It might be OK if you had it on the lowest setting and the unit was in an enclosed bedroom.If you are trying to humidify more than one room, the lowest fan setting isn't enough.

Overall the unit works as it is supposed to except for the noise on the highest fan setting.

I bought the Crane Penguin humidifier about 2 months ago. The filter arrived about a week later. My experience applies to people using HARD TAP WATER. So far I've found that, although the filter helped with keeping the humidifier a bit cleaner (I clean it once a week with diluted bleach for the tank and vinegar for the base), it only seemed to work to reduce white dust (from hard water minerals) for just over a month, using the humidifier at a low or medium setting. I'm considering using distilled water instead - it might work out cheaper than having to replace the filter every couple of months. I would definitely advise to keep the original cap for the tank and try the humidifier with and without filter.

I haven't noticed any remarkable air quality improvements (fresher air, odors eliminated, mildew stopped in its tracks) from either. Some attributes to note are that the Sanimate emits a bright yellow light (an indicator light perhaps; it's not a night light) and makes a consistent buzzing as well as intermittent clicking sounds. Both air fresheners have developed verdigris on the brass plate (the small circle on the front); when cleaned off, the brass/gold color doesn't come back. I'm inclined to suggest you save your money; sometimes a bowl of vinegar helps clear the air more (we live in a condo and the two rooms I used these in back up against the neighbor's kitchen odors...).

I don't usually waste my time leaving comments about home appliances. But this was the biggest piece of junk I ever bought. On first run it sounded like a jet plane engine shooting over the house. Then quickly stopped. This kept on about 3 times in the first minute. I never felt any cold air coming from this unit. Also, I had a smaller Haier unit running in a different window and it produced black mold throughout the house because of poor drainage.

Stay away from Haier products because the proof is written all over the internet that they are nothing but junk. I picked up a GE air conditioner for the same price and it does a great job.

Okay so this is my third cool mist humidifier.This one is worth its weight in gold!The water lasts several days when on the middle setting, there is no filter, it is easy to clean, and it is silent.I bought this with just one review.I was cautious but the review was glowing, and I have used it for 3 months and love it.You do have to use this on the counter instead of the floor because there is not a high speed fan that will push the air up.You can adjust the beak to any direction and direct the air flow.The reservoir is a little hard to fill but just take off the beak and it will balance in the tub.

This product is very well constructed.It has two speeds, low and high.The low speed is pretty much quiet enough to sleep with.The Bionaire LC-0760 is a good choice to remove any small particles that are very annoying.
Although I'm not totally knowledgable on air purifiers and the technology behind it (ionization, etc.) but I'm certainly happy with this one.It removed almost all of the dust in the room it was placed.I was sick and tired of having to dust all the furniture in the room so I got an air purifier.After getting one and I dusted for the last time.There are two computers in the room and the computer cases are modded with many fans around the side so I have to watch out for dust more than normal computer users have to as dust damages your expensive hardware.However, with this air purifier, I didn't have to worry about dust getting into my system at all.It's a great investment.

I have been using these air fliters for about 15 years - along with many others I was disappointed when the manufacturer sold out to a different company who discontinued the filter packs - yes, I was one of those who kept buying new units after a few months - the air quality was noticably better when this was running - I have one in my office and people always remark how much better the air is in there. In any case, I have been browsing for this filter pack just hoping that it would show up again and KAZ (the aquiring company) must have seen all of the negative blogs and web sites I visited as they have made them again!! I ordered a bunch for the 3 units I have going (winter and summer) and will let my friends know they are available again - many of them liked the effect but refused to buy new units when the filters got gunked up.

LW44 GRY Airwasher Review

I was so confused by all the information you can get on humidifiers I bought four and tried them all. I also have an AprilAire Central humidifier and spoke to our HVAC company as part of this. Here's the net:

When the humidity is right (40%-60%) it eliminates dry skin and stuffy noses. My dog also quit scratching. Guitar makers recommend it.

The Venta LW 44 is my favorite unit. (Note - this review is about the LW44. The LLC 5044436 is similar but wasn't available when I bought mine. I still thought this might be useful to buyers.) It has no filter at all. It cleans the air using the water. It's easy to fill, and requires less attention in terms of filling and cleaning. Overall it's a simpler design. Visually it's the least obtrusive unit - the only one my daughter would allow in her room. It's also the quietest. It also cleans the air so it eliminates an air cleaning device. In some reviews it is criticized for not humidifying. Unlike the others it doesn't have a built-in hygrometer. The moisture it puts into the air is not as noticeable as the others. However, I got a separate hygrometer and it works as well as the others. The humidity can be the same level in a room, and it will feel more humid with one unit than another. The steam units make you feel the moisture the most. The feeling of moisture - by-the-way - is not good. The less it feels moist the better. Venta allows you to use scented oils, if you like that option. Others do not. Amazon has several hygrometers. I got the Honeywell TM005X Wireless Thermo-Hygrometer.

Central Unit - The central unit will not do the job alone. We have a two-story house and it really has no impact on the upper level, where the bedrooms are and where you most need it.

Air-O-Swiss U7142 Ultrasonic humidifier. I saw it at a Bed, Bath and Beyond while shopping and it looked so slick I got it. It's not obvious until you get it home, but the instructions require you to place it up 3 feet off the ground, even though it looks like a floor unit. This is going to be a problem in most rooms because it limits where you can put it and it becomes the visual focus of the room. It worked for one day, though it produced a lot of white powder that covered the unit itself and would have become a problem for every object in the room. It only got the room to 29% humididty. On the second day the red light was on, so I refilled it and could never get it to work again. After hours of effort and troubleshooting with the customer support line, I could never make it work. The good news is that Bed, Bath and Beyond was super easy to deal with on the return and had the Venta model I discovered when troubleshooting the Air-O-Swiss.

Honeywell QuietCare - This unit will definitely humidify a room. It has a built in hygrometer. So you can set it to get to a certain level and stop. The two big tanks make the job of filling it less frequent, and the two-tank design is a good idea since it would be hard for most people to handle a single tank with 11 gallons of water. On the downside, it's a bit loud on high and you need it on high when it's cold outside and the humidity inside is low. The tanks often don't work, as they have to be positioned just right and I've never mastered getting them on 100% right 100% of the time. It has a filter, so it's cleaning he air - but the instructions tell you to remove the (rather large) filter and re-wet it every time you fill it. That's such a pain I doubt anyone would do it. Another reviewer suggested just flipping it over each time - good idea! After a while it begins to smell a bit moldy, so you have to clean it and change the filter. I ordered this from Amazon.

Honeywell Quick Steam - This unit also definitely quickly and noticeably humidifies a room. Since it's the hot steam type you can actually see the steam and you feel it more in the air. It has a smaller tank - needs refilled more often. Also has a filter, but only for the water, so it never has a bad smell. It gurgles and my wife can't sleep in a room with it. The sound from the other units is limited to the sound of the fan, which on low is fairly quiet and on high is like white noise. I also ordered this from Amazon.

I've owned this filter for about 2 years and have generally been quite pleased. It could be quieter, but hey, it's only a $50 filter. It does clean the air pretty well, judging by the filter. Some reviewers for Holmes products complain that they need to clean the unit. This unit stays very clean. Just a note however - when I purchased this two years ago, either my manual for the filter or the filter itself said to replace the filter every 3 months (I can't remember which). Since they were $60 each, I didn't do that and have replaced it about every 6 or 7 months. Well, I went to purchase a filter and they now say they last 1-3 YEARS with normal use. They have pre-filters that need to be changed every three months. This is a big money saver!

I am suprised by all the negative reviews. We bought 1 for my oldest daughter last year (end 2006) as she had croup and it worked just fine. A few months ago my youngest daughter had also a cold and cough at the same time as my oldest so we went back to buy a second one.

We don't have mold issues (even though very often if it is not in use we forget to take the water out...and to take the water out is recommended)

It makes the room humid enough (windows are wet the next morning) the best thing for cold/coughing instead of dry air.

Yes it makes quit a lot of noise when it is running but it doesn't cause a problem for my 2 girls to feel or stay in sleep.

And yes we had the first time we used also the waterproblem as we didn't put it back right. But after that never had a problem again...

They are both still working!

I realized that I had a terrible dust problem in my office, so I bought this thing.
So far I have had it for a couple of days, and it has a noticeable amount of dust on the odor grabber part, so it surely is doing something.
When I opened the box, I was amazed of the sheer size of the thing! Its much bigger than I would ever have expected!
When turned on its lowest setting its very quiet but I noticed when turned on its 2nd and highest setting I was overwhelmed with the noise. Well after having it on for awhile I am used to the noise it makes, I guess its not really that bad.
Well worth your $30 or so American dollars...
Pros: Not too terribly loud, it works...
Cons: The filters cost more than a drunk hooker on a Monday at 12:00AM.....$15+ (a piece)! oh my, well deal with it.

This filter is for the active(as in not a regular passive air filtration for central air/heating) aircleaner from Lennox(or other brands) it isn't an ordinary filter and is not to be used that way.You use it with a separate aircleaner that plugs into your climate system of air/heating and with mine also a humidifier/dehumidifier unit.The MERV 10 is quite enough to get rid of my allergy to pollen or some grass or what but the point is, when I turn it off/open a window my cough returns, I feel less energy when I turn it on and close the house the problems I have with my environment(Oklahoma humidity) goes away within minutes!This is an upgrade and at a high cost but is slightly more efficeint at this job though as with the cheaper one(MUCH cheaper!!!) it only lasts about a year.Dehumidifers can correct some problems and make it last the full year if not, it may begin to fail in less time than that if you live in high humidity.for example: Georgia, Central(OKC) and NW Central(Tulsa or Stillwater) parts of Oklahoma, or the Everglade, my bro lived in Florida, has it much worse than me.the thing lasted a month!(I am told)

I tried the Honeywell model 18155 and what a joke; wasted space large weak fan. With the 16200 I like it blowing towards me while I sleep. I have to have moving air. Plus I like the ionizer too to help improve the air quality and perhaps help with my mood disorder. Another model to conceder is the 17000 it doesn't have an ionizer but a strong fan.

I have been using this product for several years. I have tried all the fragrences and prefer the the baby powder, vanilla and when it is available the pine. With the automatic dispenser it leaves the room with a constant fresh smell. It does leave a residue on the floor or furniture if it is placed to close to these objects. Bionaire A1260C Carbon Replacement Filters, 4-pack Review

The "Bionaire A1260C Carbon Replacement Filters" are for use for several models of the Bionaire Air Cleaners(see editorial review for model numbers). I have the Bionaire BAP1175 Quietech Hepa Air Cleaner(which by the way is a fabulous product in itself).
My air cleaner works on a 3 filter system. The first removes the larger particles from the air(it may be washed) Next,this one, is a carbon filter(very easy to install and remove) that traps odors. This works great. The carbon filter does a good job of removing dog smells, smoke and cooking odors as well. It is recommended to change these filters(there are 2) every 3-6 months(it may not be washed).These filters are fairly inexpensive to replace.The instruction manuel says you will know when to replace it, as "odor removal effectiveness will be noticeably reduced". That is exactly how I knew when to change my filters.Running it almost constantly, it was just short of the 3 months that I noticed they needed to be changed, but I attribute that to the house being closed up all summer with the A/C on. And by the way, after replacing the filters,on which I could also see all the dust they filtered, I noticed the difference within minutes!(even with the dog in the house). They are simple to change(I can finally do something I don't have to ask the menfolk to help with), and they come four in a pack, so your all set for the next time. They come in a plastic resealable bag and advise to keep the spares sealed up to maintain freshness. When I ordered, I noticed that they took just a little longer then the other items, so order early.
Oh and for those interested in the Hepa Air Cleaner Model BAP1175...the third filter is the hepa filter..This is already in the machine on arrival. This filter, according to the manuel, removes 99.97% of particulate as small as 0.3 microns in size. It filters smoke, dust, pollen mold spores, pet dander and "some" bacteria. And I believe it. Now these filters are quite a bit more expensive to replace, but they last quite a while, somewhere between 12-24 months. And you will know exactly when to replace it, because there is a great feature, a digital read out of how much filter life is left.After nearly 3 months mine still has about 87% life left. A great buy on a very good product and easy to get here at Amazon(as opposed to running around trying to find the model number I needed.)

Purchased these for each of my furnaces 2 years ago and have been very pleased.It cleared up the allergens in my house air totally.Previous issues with allergies have disappeared.

The only probleme I have had is that the electronics fails to turn on-which you need for the electrostatic filter to work at its 90% effecincy, otherwise it is only 80%.Appears that the electronics is very susceptible to the filter door being not properly seated, so must be careful when replacing door after a filter change.

Filters are easily procured via internet at $60/for two and they last for a full year
Highly recommend this filter-it works as advertised.

Laser Air Quality Monitor Review

I bought one of the Dylos monitors several months ago and I was initially quite impressed.I have the more advanced, 0.5 micron model, and it reported count readings that seemed to correlate with time of day (lower reading at night) and activity (e.g. higher reading when I am dusting) However, I was not as impressed after it started to report readings that were inexplicable.For example, after a while, the reading seem to rest on a plateau of about 2200 (which signified bad air quality), whereas before it should normally read 700.I taped a piece filter paper to cover the ingress and the reading will drop to 1700.So I called up Dylos customer and technical support, who were very friendly and helpful.However, the answers I got from them were not entirely encouraging.First, the monitor had no calibrating function.So, if you suspect the reading is too high (as in my case) or too low, you are just left wondering; and of course, once you think a test or measuring tool is suspect, you don't trust/use it!Second, both the ingress and egress of the monitor has no wire gauze to protect insects from getting inside.This is not good, because if an insect got inside and contaminated the lens, the readings would be completely meaningless.Third, worse yet, you are not supposed to open up the monitor (it will void the warranty; laser might injure your eye if you are not careful) to do any cleaning.So, if, over time, cooking grease vapor, say, condensed on the surface of the lens, the accuracy of the reading would be called into question, and you cannot do any meaningful cleaning.Dylos technical support was kind enough to check and service the monitor for me (even though I admitted to having opened the unit), but the monitor still does not work right.

So, as much as I appreciate the good folks at Dylos, who really tried to help me, I just do not find this monitor a reliable tool, due to the design flaws I outlined above, which I hope they would address in a subsequent version.I hope your experience is better.

I am not sure how size of a room does they say one purifier can clean.I use two of these purifiers to maintain a clean fresh atmosphere in a 750sq feet Kitchen/living room (with fireplace) area.I think one would be suffecient, but we ended up with two (a gift).
PROS:
-It is absolutly silent, not even little noise.
- It is very easy to maintain.
- no filters to but, you just have to clean the metal parts when the machine starts making noise (you will know)
- Different levels of cleaning: with or without the UV-light, LOW-MED-HIGH.
-
NEGATIVES:
- I think two years ago we paid around $375 for one of these and we received a free bathroom ionizer. (it could have been a special promotion, I cannot remeber, but check prices elsewhere before purchasing)
- I think it is a bit large.
- If you like absolute darkness when you sleep, remmember that this machine will have 1 small light always lit, even when you do not use the UV-light
- CLEANING:
The metal part that you clean is not as easy as advertised (on TV) to clean. It takes couple of minutes to clean it, and if it not cleaned and dried properly, IT WILL make noise shortly after you restart the machine. so make sure you clean it well. I use a wet soapy sponge and then rinse and make sure it is completely clean. Then I dry it with dry cotton rag.

SUMMERY:
I think it is great, if not the best purifier I have everhad, I never thought that a purifier without any filters would work good, but it does.It takes care of all kinds of odors, once we had a guest who smoked a cigar and within an hour there were no traces of that smell. Cooking odor is illiminated within minutes or hours depending on it's severity. GREAT PROCUCT I think.

I purchased this product over 3 months ago now.It has ran great and continues to keep my basement free of dampness.The dehumidifier ran continuously for nearly a week before it cleaned out the humidity from my 40x30 unfinished basement (with little to no furniture), but now it runs only three to four times a week for about 2 hours at a time and I empty it only 1-2 times a week.The container that collects the water is difficult to remove at first, but if you read the manual (and press the sides together)the machine is a fabulous addition to your home!!It IS loud, like other reviews are confirming; however, for me- hearing it run is a reassurance that it is working! And it is not so loud that you can not mask it.Reusable filter is great, but needs cleaned often (if it runs often).Also the efficiency on this unit is SO eco-friendly... my electric bill only went up $15 for the first month of use (and it ran for over a week continuously!I emptied it daily!)GREAT PRODUCT!!!STRONGLY RECOMMEND for large basements with dampness problems!

Mine had a giant chip in the corner when it got here. I understand it's form natural minerals and they're not going to be perfect, so it's not that bad. Mine is also looks more like clear quartz because there is more white/see-through on it than there is orange. Still a lovely product, I just wish there were customer photos up. I may upload some in the future to give you readers an idea.

Holmes HAPF115PDQ-U Multi Layer Replacement Filter Review

This filter isn't as good as the original filter it replaced.When I first bought the air purifier, it did a fantastic job of absorbing odor from the litter box.Now that the original filter is gone and I am using this replacement, there are times when the odor can overwhelm its capabilities.

I suspect it has something to do with the use of (more?) baking soda in the original filter.I have no idea if the replacement uses any.

Secondly, these filters are exceedingly difficult to find.Because none of the local retailers carry it anymore -- including the store that sold me the air purifier -- I have to buy it online.

Lastly, this filter is darned expensive!

The moral of the story: If you're buying an air purifier, make sure the filters are easily replaceable and at a reasonable price.

The OEM filter has a plastic frame and is rigidly braced.This aftermarket replacement looks more like the cardboard-framed filter you'd buy for your furnace.I hope the filter works as well as the original, and the cost-savings is only in the frame.I also hope the suction generated by the fan will not distort the filter over time.
